Electronic media have decided to boycott the ongoing budget session of the Assembly.
Frequent changing in the location of cameras installed by television channels in the assembly by Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami angered the journalists from electronic media and they have decided to boycott the day’s proceedings.
This unprecedented incident took place on Monday morning. As the common people of the State don’t have any other means to know about the happenings inside the assembly, this development has been termed unfortunate by the legislators from the opposition camp.
Congress legislator Rekibuddin Ahmed who represents Chhaygaon constituency said, “This incident shows the dictatorial attitude of the present government. They don’t even care about media- which is the fourth pillar of democracy. They are being treated like dogs. This has never happened in the past.”
However, this boycott is not indefinite and might be withdrawn tomorrow.
