The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed Commissioner of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) Devajyoti Hazarika as the General Observer of the Assembly elections in all the 5 states – Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puduchery and Kerala.
Devajyoti Hazarika, an Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer, has been appointed as the General Observer for Assembly elections in 5 States under Article 324 of the Constitution of India.

The order of appointment of Devajyoti Hazarika as General Observer was issued on Wednesday.
As General Observer, Devajyoti Hazarika will be subject to control, superintending and discipline of the Election Commission.

Assembly Elections to 5 states – Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puduchery and Kerala are slated to be held from March 27.
Counting for all the five states would be held on May 2.
