Sleuths of Assam Forest department and Biswanath police arrested a dreaded poacher from Biswanath Chariali on Saturday. The poacher has been identified as Jabidur Rahman alias Bhujel. During interrogation Jabidur confessed to selling rhino horn at Dimapur at a cost of Rs 50 lakh.
Jabidul was arrested during a joint operation by the Northern Range officials of forest department and Biswanath police at Biswanth Ghat on the bank of the river Brahmaputra. He was involved in three incidents of rhino poaching in the Kaziranga National Park.

Range officer of Northern Range of the sixth addition of the park Pranjal Baruah informed Northeast Now that Jabidul was involved in poaching one rhino under Bagori Range besides poaching two other rhinos in the park. The poacher was hiding himself and frequently changed his location with different identities to evade arrest.
Baruah said sufficient measures have been taken and constant monitoring the area is carrying out with the help of security forces.
Poaching of rhino has become one of the major environmental issues in Assam.

Recently Sixth Addition of the Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in a joint operation against poachers recovered one plastic boat, a pump and some materials which are used in poaching. Pranjal Baruah, forest range officer of the Northern Range along with the Superintendent of Police (SP) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Biswanath was in the operation.
The poachers also confessed that they used the material for crossing river Brahmaputra to enter Kaziranga National Park for the purpose of poaching.
