Dreaded NDFB (S) cadre gunned down along Indo-Bhutan border

A hardcore militant belonging to banned outfit, Songbijit group of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB -S) was gunned down during a fierce encounter with security forces in Assam’s Chirang district along Indo-Bhutan border.

Security forces launched a massive search operation after receiving a tip-off on the movement of NDFB(S) militants near Indo-Bhutan border in the district.

On sighting the security personnel, the militants fired at the search party to which the security personnel retaliated killing one of the militants, while others managed to flee.

The police also busted a hideout and recovered one 9 mm pistol, one magazine, five rounds of live ammunition and other miscellaneous articles.

The slain terrorist is yet to be identified.

Later talking to media, Chirang district Superintendent of Police (SP) Shankar Rai Medhi said that, on the basis of secret information about the movement of a group of NDFB (S) militants under the command of Batha at Ballambari Bagan forest area near Indo-Bhutan border located at about 35 km north-west from Runikhata police station, a search operation was launched by Chirang Police on the wee hours of Monday at the area.

“At around 9 am, on sighting the police party the NDFB (S) militants opened indiscriminate fire at the police party. The police party also opened retaliatory fire, as a result of which one unidentified militant sustained bullet injuries. He was shifted to hospital for treatment where he was declared as brought dead,” the Chirang district SP said.

The slain militant is yet to be identified.
