The prime accused of the Doomdooma incident , Aziz Khan alias Mulla was arrested on Saturday from Dikom area in Dibrugarh district. Three others involved in the incident–Md Habibullah, Md Shabbir Hussain and Md Narshim– were also arrested.

Aziz allegedly made derogatory comments against a deity on Facebook triggering clashes between two communities at Borhapjan under Doomdoma police station in Tinsukia district.

The clash broken out between two groups in which at least 15 persons were injured, when activists of Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad (Asom) blocked National Highway 37, amid a bandh call at Doomdooma, Borhapjan, Chotahapjan, Longswal, following police failure to arrest the alleged culprit, Md Aziz Khan alias Mulla, after the Facebook post.

The Parishad had lodged an FIR against Khan with Tinsukia police station on September 10. Police had to lathicharge and fire tear gas shell in the air to control the situation.

On Saturday, normal life was disrupted in Tinsukia district as the Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad called a 24-hour Tinsukia bandh in protest against the incident.

The All Assam Adivasi Students’ Union, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal have extended support to the bandh.
