Assam minister of state for health and family affairs, Piyush Hazarika on Monday appealed the people of the State not to treat doctors as their enemies.

“Please don’t treat our doctors as enemies for the mistakes committed by a few,” appealed the minister.

“About 95 per cent doctors are providing genuine service especially in the rural areas,” he said.

“But for the unintentional mistakes of only five per cent, we shouldn’t treat them as the enemies,” he added.

The minister was referring to two incidents of agitation against the doctors in last four months in the district.

In one such incident of September 19 last at the Dudhnoi first referral unit hospital, two doctors, Jayanta Sahu and Arup Boro were manhandled by the relatives of an accident death patient.

The irate people even partially damaged the hospital also.

In an another similar incident at the Goalpara district civil hospital at Bhalukdubi on October 16,  a students’ body had staged protest over the death of a 27-day old infant allegedly due to the negligence of a resident doctors.

Piyush Hazarika was speaking on Monday, on the occasion of inaugural programme of the free dialysis centre inside the Goalpara district civil hospital.

Referring to the dialysis centre he said, “This is the number 13 free dialysis centre in the State.”

The minister also announced increase of the remuneration of the Asha workers in the State and appealed all the health sector stake holders to continue their divine service.

In the same meeting, A K Rasid Alom, MLA of East Goalpara appealed the minister to upgrade the staff quarters inside the district civil hospital.

Dipak Rabha, MLA of Dudhnoi constituency hailed the health initiative taken by the government.

Dr Shyamalendu Das, hospital superintendent gave the vote of thanks where apart from district health officers, political leaders Abdur Rahim Zibran, Dipak Kumar Nath and social worker Shahi Mohd Karim was also present.

Later, Piyush Hazarika inaugurated the model hospital at the Jaleswar Bazar of the Jaleswar constituency and dedicated for public in presence of Sahabuddin Ahmed, MLA of Jaleswar constituency.
