The Diphu Medical College (DMC) will start functioning from November 25, said the principal-cum-chief superintendent, Dr Sumitra Hagjer at Diphu on Thursday.
Informing about the opening of the Out Patient Department (OPD) at DMC during a press conference at Diphu on Thursday, Dr. Hagjer said, “DMC will start functioning from November 25. The OPD will remain open from 8 am to 2 pm.”

“The emergency services and services for critical cases will be available at the Diphu Civil Hospital (DCH),” said Dr Hagjer.

He said, “As we are going for a new medical college, we are in a transition period towards a full-fledged Diphu Medical College. We are going in a phase manner.”

“First, we are introducing OPD services and not emergency services and service for critical cases (at DMC). We are going to deal with patients coming for check-up, examination and test,” he added.
He also said, “Our (health) minister (Himanta Biswa Sarma) has directed us to start the OPD services at the first phase from November 25 at DMC.”
“I appeal through the media that this important information is spread in remote areas of the district,” Dr Hagjer said.
“This is to clear the doubt among the general public about the OPD services, whether at the DCH or DMC,” he added.
In the second phase, the indoor patients will be shifted to the DMC from the DCH and in the final phase, all the operation theatres, laboratories and all the equipment and machineries will be shifted to the DMC and then it will function as a college and hospital, Dr Hagjer said.
To take OPD patients for check-up and examination to the DMC, there will be free ambulance service from the DCH.
“DCH doctors will be professors and assistant professors in DMC,” he said.
About the availability of medicines, Dr Hagjer said the hospital pharmacy has already been shifted to DMC and medicines will be available there.
