The Assam Congress has criticised BJP’s proposed solution to solve the State’s perennial floods issue.
The BJP has been promising to make Assam “flood-free” by digging up ‘ponds’ across the State.

In its manifesto, BJP has stated that the party, if voted to power will launch “Mission Brahmaputra” to solve Assam’s flood issue.
The BJP said that it will ‘dredge’ the Brahmaputra River from Dhubri to Sadiya and “build reservoirs to store excess water from Brahmaputra and its tributaries”.
This solution of the ruling-BJP in Assam has come under heavy criticism from the Assam Congress.

The Assam Congress has termed the proposed solution of the BJP as ‘impractical’ and ‘jumla’.
“Digging up holes here and there will solve Assam’s flood issue? Is that some kind of a joke?,” Assam Congress leader Gaurav Vallabh said while interacting with the media.
Gaurav Vallabh said: “When floods hit Assam, it is like a tsunami. And, the BJP is promising to control tsunami by digging up holes. This is completely impractical.”

Notably, top BJP leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party’s national president JP Nadda in several election rallies have said that the saffron party is planning to dig talabs (ponds) across Assam to control floods.
The BJP-led State Government in Assam in the last 5 years has failed miserably to address the issues of flood and erosion in the State.
After having failed in the past 5 years, the BJP is now seeking another 5 years from the people of Assam to solve the issue of floods in the State.
