Digboi: The citizens’ programme organised at Luit Silpi Samaj in Digboi on Sunday, on the occasion of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s birth anniversary, saw a large public turnout and was attended by local BJP legislator Suren Phukan.
The gathering included discussions on Phukan’s leadership and development work in the Digboi constituency.
The programme was attended by social workers, writers and poets, retired school and college principals, former government and AOD officials, senior academicians, sportspersons, women representatives, and members of the business community.
Participants reviewed Digboi’s developmental progress over the past five years.
Speakers expressed satisfaction with the pace, scale, and direction of development under Phukan’s tenure, noting improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare delivery, and road connectivity.
A book chronicling Phukan’s five-year legislative work and development initiatives was released during the event. The publication provides a record of key milestones, projects, and policy interventions undertaken during his tenure.
Women speakers made suggestions to the legislator and urged continued focus on inclusive and welfare-oriented development.
Senior academicians and retired principals highlighted progress in educational initiatives, while retired administrative officials noted improved governance and responsiveness at the grassroots level.

Phukan thanked the attendees for their feedback and cooperation. He reaffirmed his commitment to further development in Digboi and attributed changes in the constituency to public participation and the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
