Dibrugarh MLA wants Bogibeel bridge to be rechristened as Atal Setu

Dibrugarh legislator Prashanta Phukan wanted the Bogibeel bridge to be named after the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as Atal Setu.

Paying tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the party office at Dibrugarh, Phukan said naming the Bogibeel bridge as “Atal Setu’ would be a befitting tribute to the tallest leader of the country.

Another BJP leader Parag Dutta said that naming the bridge as ‘Atal Setu’ will be a real tribute to the true Indian statesman.

People from all walks of life are paying tribute to one of the tallest leaders of the nation. Every Indian is deeply saddened by the passing away of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday.

Former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s demise on August 16 cast a pall of gloom in Dibrugarh also with citizens of this Upper Assam town deeply condoling his death. Citizens of Dibrugarh recall his role in construction of Bogibeel bridge. He as Prime minister, ensured that the Bogibeel rail-cum-road bridge will be a facility with two broad gauge rail tracks.

He formally started the construction work of Bogibeel bridge at a function at the historic Chowkidinghee grounds, Dibrugarh on April 21, 2002.
