Dibrugarh deputy commissioner (DC) Pallav Gopal Jha on Monday directed forest department officials to take strict action against illegal coal mining in the district.
DC Jha also directed the officials concerned to take stringent measures against illegal mining of coal, if any, in and around the heritage sites in the district.

The DC directed forest officials to check the illegal trade of sand, silt, stone chips and wood.
The directions came at a meeting in Joypur, where the DC also asked the forest officials to keep strict vigil and work in sync with the police administration to stop all kind of illegal trade of forest resources.
He further asked forest department officials to maintain zero tolerance attitudes toward any violation of forest rules and to remain committed for strict enforcement of forest rules and stop law breakers.

The meeting was also attended by Dibrugarh SP Gautom Bora, ADC Susanta Kumar Dutta, Naharkatia and Tengakhat circle officers Bikram Chetri and Asutosh Deka and forest officials of Dibrugarh and Digboi forest division.
