At least 19 people, who attended an event at Athgaon Kabarsthan Masjid in Guwahati on March 12 along with the district’s two Covid-19 positive patients, have now been mass-quarantined.

This was informed by the local Markaj leaders and the district administration.

“All these members of Tablighi Jamat went to Athgaon Kabarsthan Masjid on March 11, stayed together with both the Covid-19 positive cases of Dhubri district, identified as Jalal Uddin of Chapar and Rahim Uddin of Hakma and returned back to Dhubri on March 12,” they said.

While the first positive patient is from Chapar and the second patient is from Hakma.

The first Covid-19 positive patient of Dhubri district, who attended Delhi’s Nizamuddin Tablighi Jamaat congregation, also took part in the meeting at Athgaon Kabarsthan Masjid.

“He stayed with the one Rahim Uddin who was recently declared as the 2nd Covid-19 positive case of Dhubri district,” the Markaz leaders said.

They also said many of those, who attended the meeting at Athgaon, including both the positive cases of the district, also visited the Bilasipara Markaj Masjid.

They had participated in a religious meeting there and came in close contact with many other people.

The district administration has sealed the Bilasipara Markaj Masjid and has declared the area as a ‘Containment Zone’.

P Mazumdar, additional deputy commissioner of Dhubri said, “Nine persons from Dhubri have been quarantined at the DRDA guest house near Dhubri Civil Hospital.”

“The other people, who belong to Bilasipara sub-division of Dhubri district, have been quarantined at Borkanda PF Academy and Chapar Madrassa HS School,” said Mazumdar.

The swab samples of all the 19 suspected people have been sent for testing.

“All these persons came in close contact with the Covid-19 positive patients. We are now waiting for the test results,” said Mazumdar.

Moreover, the health department sources revealed that till now, samples of 85 people, who have been tested for Covid-19, have been found negative while 50 test results are awaited.

In the entire district, 2,457 people have so far been put under home quarantine while 544 persons have been mass quarantined at 8 different centres.
