Heavy rain and floods have thrown life out of gear in the entire district of Dhubri in Assam.

Over 10 lakh people have been affected by the overflowing mighty Brahmaputra in the region.

Rain during the last couples of days has also throwing normal life out of gear.

Low-lying areas in district were already facing a flood-like situation with the incessant rainfall and high rise in water level of Brahamputra and its tributaries since last couple of weeks, while two people have so far been reported dead.

Meanwhile, the fresh flood water has also submerged the Dhubri town on Sunday night and entire town areas are reeling under water due to the high rise in water level of river Gadadhar, a tributary of Brahamputra and crossed the main road of Dhubri town in many locations since Sunday evening.

THE road connectivity between Gauripur town and Dhubri has been completely stoped due to the sinkage of flood waters in four different places of GTB Road resulting in surface link between Dhubri town, the district headquarter has now been cut off from the rest of the State and country.

Ananta Lal Gyani, deputy commissioner of Dhubri on Monday said that over nine lakh people have been affected by the flood sitution in the district with more than half of the area of the district submerged in flood water.

Over 18000 hectares of crop land has been destroyed as per primary assesement report submitted by the concerned authorities, said Gyani.

The South Salmara and Athani revenue circle of district is the worst hit in the district with over three lakh people reeling under the impact of the floods.

The Dhubri district disaster relief force has said nearly 800 villages in eight revenue circles are under water and nearly 7000 marooned people have so far been put up in 32 relief camps and relief distribution centres set up by the district administration.
