In a controversial letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Pravin Togadia stated that despite Modi being in power at the Centre and the BJP ruling in Assam, Bangladeshis are living in Assam happily.
In his letter to the PM, Togadia stated, “Promise of deporting Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators has repeated by RSS, BJP & VHP for many years now,” adding, “Now you have power at the Centre & BJP rules Assam; yet such Bangladeshis live in Assam happily & control almost 19 constituencies.”
His claim that “Bangladeshis….control 19 constituencies” in Assam which directly refers to Assam’s opposition party All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) led by MP Badruddin Ajmal is likely to attract repercussions in the State.
Alleging that the tribal people of Assam have been compelled by Bangladeshis to stay in makeshift homes, Togadia, in his letter written on March 14, which he uploaded on his Twitter handle, stated, “Many tribes from the North East like Karbi Anglong, Bodo(land), etc. – have been forced to run away from their original habitats in the forests & are forced to live in makeshift camps.”
Expressing concern over the Rohingya Muslim issue, Togadia, who addressed Modi as ‘Bhai’ stated, “Now, over & above these long pending matters, Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar have been settled in Bharat (India) up to Jammu. Just like Bangladeshis, even Rohingyas will soon capture many areas in Bharat, increase their population & then demand rights here.”
Urging Prime Minister Modi to have a dialogue, VHP leader Togadia added, “So, ideologically, we should have a dialogue and come out with the immediate solution,” adding, “Let’s work towards making the nation really safe.”
