However, this tweet of the Assam Deputy Speaker didn’t go down well among the netizens, with many slamming him for his ‘divisive’ tweet.
Does @BJP4Assam supports this thought? This is how our legislative assembly will work? This is not acceptable. He is the speaker of an assembly. https://t.co/Kv0MVBeg7Z

This doesn’t suit a speaker of a legislative assembly. This kind of things promote separatism. NE is a part of India. Whole India is proud of the achievement. Take this tweet down. This is not acceptable. https://t.co/Kv0MVBeg7Z

Can’t believe a public representative and holder of a post as high as deputy speaker of a state assembly holds such view…

Meanwhile, speaking exclusively to this correspondent, the Assam Deputy Speaker tried to justify his tweet by saying that his tweet has nothing to do with politics.
“One should not politicise the tweet. Mirabai Chanu is from the Northeast and she won the medal in the first day itself making it India’s first in this Olympics. The tweet was in that sense,” Momin said to this correspondent.
