Dental College student in Guwahati tests positive for COVID-19, Assam cases reach 59

A student of Regional Dental College in Guwahati has tested positive for novel coronavirus on Friday, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Alert ~ One student of Regional Dental College, Kamrup Metro has tested #COVID19 positive. Total #COVID19 patients in Assam 59 Active cases 24 Discharged 34,” Sarma said in a late night tweet on Friday.

Assam reported a total of six coronavirus positive case on Friday taking the total positive case to 59.

Barring the dental college student, the five other persons had returned from Rajasthan’s Ajmir Sharif Dargah.

Health minister Sarma said that a bus carrying 45 passengers had arrived in Silchar on Wednesday from Rajasthan’s Ajmer. Five of them tested positive on Friday, taking the total number of cases related to this group to ten.

In the last 24 hours, Assam reported a sudden spike in the number of coronavirus cases.

The test report of a 16-year-old girl in Guwahati confirmed the infection after her death.

A post-graduate student of Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) and a 55-year-old woman from Kharghuli Hills area of Guwahati tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

The fourth person to test positive in Guwahati had returned from West Bengal on May 6 along with two others in a personal vehicle.

The person has been admitted to Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital.
