Citizens Rights Protection Coordination Committee (CRPCC), a conglomeration of 43 organizations formed last year in Barak Valley, placed a charter of demands before the centre and the state government at Silchar on Saturday.

CRPCC, headed by Ex Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Dr Tapadhir Bhattacharjee as its Central Committee’s Chairman, and the man who has made the headlines quite often this month, was not present though when this charter of demands were placed by its other members of the central committee, before the waiting media.

The core demands heading the list, was to withdraw the case filed against Dr Tapadhir Bhattacharjee in Guwahati High Court for an alleged writings of seditious articles that can cause incitement or communal tension, to the state government.

The family members of a ‘D’ voter who would be left out from the list as stated by the NRC officials should be taken back and their names too should be incorporated, is another demand of CRPCC. Disclaiming some documents by the NRC officials, like birth certificates post one year of birth, refugee certificates and its like, should be considered as a valid document, or else, a person who would not find his name after the final draft, he or she can never prove himself or herself, post July 30, said, members of CRPCC in unison.

Even for a child born after 2015, living out here, the NRC has not made any provisions for inclusions of their names, which we demand should be incorporated, informed Sadhan Purkayastha, Co-Chairman of Central Committee of CRPCC.

Speaking to Northeast Now, Purkaysatha, said,” The whole process of NRC is so complex that we believe as per the officials attached in this process, more than 20 lakh people in the whole state would not find their names on July 30. Our assumption is much more, but, those who would not find their names, will they really be able to incorporate their names in the final publication of NRC, is worrying us a lot”.

He said the documents that have been rejected for many, especially the poor and the marginalized people, would not be able to produce a fresh document, post July 30.

Purkayastha, also pointed fingers at State Coordinator of NRC Prateek Hazela as well as the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal.

In his remarks, he said, “Prateek Hajela made so many changes in the whole process that itself puts a lot of doubt for seeing a fool proof, unbiased, NRC draft two days from now”.

The Chief Minister too, when he speaks of more forces needed in Assam, allays a fear in the minds of the people, but, we have to wait and watch, as he has said in Silchar on July 25 last that he would take the responsibility of the people of Barak Valley.

“So, let us wait and watch till July 30,” Purkayastha added.
