22nd state conference of CPI-M to be held in Guwahati from February 4

The CPI-M state conference will be held in Guwahati from February 4. The party will make an objective assessment of the current political situation in Assam and chalk out future course of actions in its three-day 22nd state conference.

“The emasculation of democracy and growing authoritarianism under BJP led dispensation in Assam has become a great concern for the people. Freedom of expression and democratic rights are under constant attack. The CPI-M state conference will highlight these issues and chalk out plan to save democracy and democratic rights in the State. The upgradation of a flawless NRC in Assam and resistance to the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 will certainly be major issues to be taken up in the CPI-M conference,” the party said in a statement uploaded in social media.

The conference will focus on expansion and consolidation of the organizational activities of the party. The party will stress the need for increasing its influence among the cross sections of people cutting across religious, linguistic and ethnic barriers.

The conference will review its activities of the last three years since the 21st state conference held at Tezpur. It will identify its achievements, weaknesses and shortcomings in various spheres.

“The major task of the party is to intensify the movements and struggles against the anti people economic policies now being pursued by the BJP-led governments — both at the Centre and in Assam. The anti-Assam policies of the Modi government will be opposed tooth and nail,” the CPI-M said in a statement.

The CPI-M will also firmly oppose and resolutely fight the politics of communal polarisation and hate campaigns aggressively being launched by the BJP-RSS combine.

The party will try to strengthen left unity and unite all left-democratic and secular forces to defeat communal and divisive forces, the statement added.

The burning issues like price rise, land to the landless, inhuman eviction drive of the state government, minimum support price to the farmers for their produce, acute problems of unemployment and demand for employment generation through massive public investment for infrastructure building, problems of flood and erosions in Assam, etc. will be focused.

The problems of the religious and linguistic minority communities, Adivasis and tea garden workers, various ethnic groups and socially backward communities, atrocities on women and gender discrimination, etc. would also be addressed in the conference.

The problems of public health and public education will get special attention.

All round development of Assam and peace, unity and communal harmony will be the war cry of the CPI-M conference.
