Stating that the Assam government has taken a series of steps to deal with this unprecedented challenge, Sarma said, “We have worked in our medical infrastructure, added more oxygen and ICU beds, covid care centres, etc. We have also upped our oxygen generation and storage.”

The impact of the second wave of COVID-19 has been “extremely severe” in Assam, the chief minister said.

Against this backdrop, there is a need to further strengthen the medical infrastructure in the state.

Steps in this direction are being taken on a war-footing, he informed.

“I humbly request you to contribute generously to add to our capacities to deal with this crisis. Your donations would be utilised only for Covid-19 prevention, buying vaccines, oxygen beds and related works,” the chief minister said.

The list of donors will be released by the government from time to time and all donations would be exempted from the income tax, the CM informed.

“Your contributions will surely help us in dealing with the situation arising out of this pandemic. You can make your contribution in either of the two dedicated funds,” the chief minister added.

The account No. of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Assam is 35969660230 (SBI), IFSC- SBIN0010755 and PAN: AAATC4667K.

Last year, a number of people and organisations contributed crores of funds towards the CM’s Relief Fund and Aarogya Nidhi to tackle the Covid19 situation.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, who served as the health minister during the tenure of Sarbananda Sonowal-led government, also announced that the government would come up with Covid hospitals in the state for the treatment of Covid19 affected patients. However, no such hospital has been manufactured.
