The total number of COVID19 positive cases registered in Assam so far reached 25,092 with detection of 1,093 new cases in the last 24 hours.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet at 12.28 am on Tuesday said out of the new COVID19 cases, Guwahati has reported 448 cases.

“Alert ~ 1093 new #COVID19 ve+ patients in Assam today with 448 cases from Guwahati City,” Sarma tweeted.

The health minister said more than 20,000 COVID19 tests were carried out in various laboratories in Assam in the last 24 hours.

“With 20000 + tests carried out today, our daily positivity rate is only 5%,” Sarma tweeted.

With the new cases, Assam currently has 7936 active COVID19 cases.

Earlier, a total of 17,095 COVID19 patients have been discharged from various hospitals across Assam after they tested negative for the virus.

On Monday, 1072 patients were discharged from the hospitals in the state.

The deadly disease has so claimed the lives of 58 persons.

On Monday, another COVID19 positive patient in Assam passed away, however, the state’s Death Audit Board has declared the cause of the death as Pneumonia.

Informing about the death of the COVID19 patient, health minister Sarma said the deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Rajesh Narzary from Kokrajhar.

“My heartfelt condolences to family & friends of Sri Rajesh Narzary (45, Kokrajhar) whom we unfortunately lost at GMCH Guwahati. The Death Audit Board has attributed the cause to #COVID19 Pneumonia,” he added.
