Assam health minister Keshab Mahanta on Tuesday inaugurated a virology laboratory for Covid emergency at Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital (LMCH) in North Lakhimpur.

The laboratory is expected to cater to the demand of the increased RT-PCR tests for Covid-19 in Lakhimpur and its neighboring districts which were earlier sent to the ICMR facility at Dibrugarh.

This was done during his visit to Lakhimpur district to take a stock of the Covid situation.

Mahanta also inspected the progress of work of the under-construction Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital.

The health minister interacted with the doctors and health workers engaged in Covid care at North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital and took updates of the pandemic scenario and the admitted patients.

Later Keshahb Mahanta attended a Covid vaccination camp organized by the district health department and Lakhimpur district administration. Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah and local MLA Manab Deka accompanied the minister in his visits.

The health minister also attended a review meeting of the Covid situation in the Lakhimpur district at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in North Lakhimpur along with all concerned officials.

Meanwhile on Monday Lakhimpur district recorded 150 new Covid positive cases.
