Following the detection of COVID-19 in one of the employees of a hotel (quarantine centre) in North Lakhimpur, the fear of community transmission has gripped the residents of North Lakhimpur town.

The patient has been identified as Bikas Ali- a waiter working at Hotel A&A2 in KB Road in North Lakhimpur.

Swab samples of the employees of the hotel were collected on June 12 after a person infected with COVID-19 arrived in the hotel as a guest.

The test results came on Sunday in which the waiter was found positive.

It is suspected that the waiter had supplied cigarettes and other chewable to the COVID-19 patient in the hotel.

However, the contact details of the waiter outside the hotel have not been confirmed so far.

Lakhimpur Joint Director of Health, In-Charge, Dr HK Dutta said so far they are unable to detect the contact history of the patient before he was found positive.

“We are investigating about his contact history, especially the shops he might have visited,” Dutta said.

“Therefore, I request the shopkeepers to inform us if they sold anything to him or came in contact with,” Dr Dutta added.

Dr Dutta also ruled out the possibility of declaring the Hotel A&A2 as a containment zone.

Another person in North Lakhimpur, an official from the BSF travelling from Jharkhand was also tested COVID-19 positive on Sunday.
