Another patient, fifth of the day, lost the battle with COVID-19 in Assam on Wednesday taking the overall death tally in the state to 21.
A 30-year-old COVID-19 patient died while being treated at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH), hours later four deaths were recorded in Guwahati.
The deceased has been identified as Jitendra Prasad- a resident of Udalguri.
Informing about the death, state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet, said, “Condolences. Sad to inform that Jitendra Prasad (30) from Majbat, Udalguri admitted on July 7 at Tezpur Medical College, with features of Septicaemia in shock with history of herbal medication, became the victim of #COVID19. So sad to see young lives being lost!”

The four patients who died earlier have been identified as Safikul Rahman (60) of Hidayatpur in Guwahati, Ramani Mazumdar (60) of Patacharkuchi in Barpeta, Utpal Kumar Chaliha (75) of Kahilipara in Guwahati and Hari Prasad Mandal (68) of Lalganesh in Guwahati.
