Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday appealed to the people to follow the Covid-19 guidelines set by the state government.
“Like last year, the people should follow the guidelines set by the state health department. I appeal to everyone to wear masks and sanitize their hands regularly to keep infection at bay,” Sonowal said during his visit to Dibrugarh.

“Everyone should celebrate Bihu adhering to Covid-19 protocols as letting our guard down can bring forth a serious wave of infections,” the chief minister said.

Meanwhile, people across Assam are busy celebrating Rongali Bihu and it has been observed that many Bihu committees have ahead with organizing functions without following the standard operating procedures set up by the state government to curb the spread of the virus.

The Assam government has restricted the Bihu committees to end up the Bihu function by 11 pm, but many functions re continuing even beyond this time.
Assam’s Covid-19 tally rose to 2,22,367 on Thursday as 499 more people tested positive for the virus.
The state now has 3,613 active cases, while 2,16,284 people have recovered from the disease so far.
The death toll rose to 1,123 as one more person succumbed to the disease in Kamrup (Metro) district on Thursday.
