The Paresh Baruah faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) will not celebrate the raising day of the outfit on April 7 in view of the coronavirus outbreak.
ULFA (I) leader Munna Baruah alias Rupak Asom in a video clip released on Sunday said that they have decided to stay away from celebrating the 41st raising day of the outfit in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
Munna Baruah alias Rupak Asom is the nephew of ULFA (I) military chief Paresh Baruah and he had joined the proscribed outfit in November, 2018.
Munna made an appearance in a video for the first time after he joined the ULFA (I) more than one year back.
“The ULFA (I) has decided to skip the raising day celebration and will observe one minute silence in memory of those ULFA (I) rebels, who have lost their lives in the liberation struggle of Assam,” said Munna alias Rupak Asom, a member of the outfit’s publicity unit.
He also exhorted the people of Assam to observe one minute silence in memory of the ‘martyrs’ of Assam’s liberation struggle at 7 am on April 7.
The outfit further appealed to the people of the State to refrain from celebrating Rangali Bihu this year in view of the outbreak of the deadly virus.
