The Milanpur No.2 Masjid in the heart of Guwahati was declared a containment zone after it was found that a worker of the Masjid had gone to Nalabri in Lower Assam.

Nalbari district has been categorized as COVID-19 red zones and entry and exit to and from the district has been restricted.

Police said the worker of Masjid, identified as Saifuddin Rahman, had gone to his home in Loharkata village in Nalbari district on April 19 and he came back with his family members on Sunday.

Rahman and his wife and son have been put into quarantine after he returned from Nalbari on Sunday.

The Majsid has been sealed for 16 days and no one will be allowed to enter in the premises till May 16.

“A team of Chanmari police and health officials visited the Masjid today (Sunday) after locals informed about it. They came here on an ambulance. A meeting was arranged with the Masjid committee members and a quarantine notice was pasted outside the mosque. The place was thoroughly sanitized,” said a police official.

“They were immediately sent for checkup,” he added.
