Coronavirus threat: Counter opened at Jorhat airport to screen infected passengers

In view of the coronavirus outbreak in China, the Assam health department has set up counter a counter of a medical team  at the Jorhat airport at Rowriah to screen infected passengers coming from outside the state.

A medical team comprising two physicians and four paramedics have been deployed at the airport, said a health department official.

The coronavirus screening team a the airport has been equipped with infrared thermometer to check body temperature.

No case of coronavirus has been detected at the airport.

The team is being supported by officials of the Airport Authority of India (AAI).

A voluntary disclosure form for passengers coming from outside Assam, who may have returned from China or any other neighbouring South-east Asian country, has been made available at the airport so that medical screening could be done immediately, Assam Tribune reported.

The official said an isolation ward has been kept standby at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) exclusively for the coronavirus infected patients.

Assam Health Minister Pijush Hazarika earlier said a 30- member team from the state health department has been put on duty in batches of 10 at the airport to screen for coronavirus affected passengers.
