The Tinsukia Railway Division of NF Railway has converted 60 railway coaches into isolation wards to accommodate COVID-19 patients.
This is a new initiative on the part of the railways to combat the COVID-19 in case of a larger outbreak of the disease, said Ashish Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager, Tinsukia.
He further said that 30 coaches have been kept at the New Dibrugarh (Banipur) Railway Station and rest are at the Dibrugarh Workshop.
These are all non-AC sleeper coaches that are being converted with a total face-lift so as to suit medical beds, informed Senior Divisional Engineer (Mechanical) TK Maity.
These 60 coaches are equipped with eight cabins, which can accommodate 480 patients and medical staff.
