With the forthcoming Lok Sabha election 2019 is round the corner, Congress ticket aspirants from Assam have started campaigning in the national capital.

The aspirants have been trying to meet party’s central leadership in a bid to get their attention.

“I intend to contest from Dhubri Lok Sabha seat against sitting MP Badruddin Ajmal. If I get a ticket to contest the forthcoming election, I could definitely defeat Ajmal,” said former Assam minister and party’s state general secretary Md. Mohibul Haque.

He said BJP will definitely see the oath of exit because of its ‘anti-people’ policies. “Their (BJP’s) Citizenship Amendment Bill is also against the interest of the indigenous people of the state,” said Haque.

Another ticket aspirant Sabda Rabha said, “Congress will definitely get maximum seats this time.”

Rabha is seeking Congress ticket to contest from the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat.

However, the Congress in 2014 had to lose 4 seats to BJP and others.

The grand old party, Congress bagged only three seats while BJP bagged 7 seats with an addition of three more seats.

Out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam, BJP has 7 seats, Congress 3, AIUDF 3 and Independent 1.

Interestingly, as of now, Congress has decided to go alone in the forthcoming general elections in Assam.
