Assam opposition leader Debabrata Saikia has written to Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal seeking resumption of local train services in the state.

“You may recall that I had requested you to ensure the expeditious resumption of local train services in Assam, which were stopped in consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The worst affected persons are petty traders and vendors who travel by train to sell their wares in urban areas on a daily basis, as also employees who travel daily to their workplaces in urban areas and return home in the evening,” read the letter.

He further stated that no action has been initiated in this regard by the Indian Railways even though three months have elapsed since the appeal.

Saikia further requested the Union Minister to urgently issue necessary orders in this regard in the greater interest of the people.
