Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora along with other leaders of the party on Wednesday visited former Assam chief minister Bhumidhar Barman at the Dispur Hospital in Guwahati to enquire about his health.
The 89-year-old veteran leader is currently admitted in the intensive care unit of the hospital and undergoing treatment for old-age ailments.
Meanwhile, doctors treating him said that he is gradually recovering and his condition is stable at present.
Barman took charge as Assam’s chief Minister of Assam from 22 April to 14 May 1996 after the death of former chief minister Hiteswar Saikia.
He had also been the acting chief minister briefly in 2010 when the then Assam chief minister tarun Gogoi had gone for a bypass surgery to the US.
During his illustrious career in politics, Barman had been elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly for seven times.
He also held the important portfolios of revenue and health and family welfare as a cabinet minister.
