Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday directed the PWD (Roads) to complete the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge by March 2023.
The Assam chief minister’s directive comes after reviewing the implementation status of various bridge construction projects during his visit to the office of the chief engineer, PWD (Roads) (EAP) at Fatasil Ambari in Guwahati.

“The PWD officials apprising the chief minister about the construction status of the Guwahati-North Guwahati connecting bridge informed that around 37% works of the bridge have been completed.”
He also had discussion on the proposed Palasbari-Sualkuchi connecting bridge and construction of roads under ‘Asom Mala’ project.
While taking stock of the proposed Palasbari-Sualkuchi connecting bridge, the Assam chief minister directed the PWD (Roads) officials to make it a four-lane bridge and finalise the modalities and DPR for the project.

“The alignment of the bridge was also decided in the meeting while modalities of fund allocation, technical details were also discussed,” said a government statement.

Moreover, reviewing various projects under ‘Asom Mala’, chief minister Sarma directed the officials to ensure timely completion of all roads and bridge projects.
Sarma asked the officials to prepare DPR for bridges over Ghunasuti river in Lakhimpur and bridge connecting Kumarikata with Jalah over Pagladia river.
Tezpur MP Pallab Lochan Das, commissioner & special secretary of PWD (roads) Rajesh Kemprai and other senior officers of the department were also present in the meeting, the statement said.
