Although a number of schools in the northeast are opting to switch to central board of secondary education (CBSE), the number of students appearing for the Class X state board examination in Assam is on the rise.
Nayan Jyoti Sarmah, the controller of examinations at the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), told TOI on Monday that the number of students appearing for the Class X state board exams is increasing by fifteen thousand every year.
While around 4.05 lakh candidates were registered for the Class X state board exams this year, and 3.56 lakh finally appeared for it, around 4.36 lakh students have registered to appear in exams next year. 4.46 lakh candidates have registered to appear in the exam scheduled to be held in 2020.
SEBA believes that the rise in the number is significant, especially at a time when there is a huge demand for CBSE schools which keep mushrooming throughout the region. “The numbers show that Seba is doing well. Without being concerned about schools switching over to the CBSE, we are happy that the number of students appearing for the Class X board exams is increasing by fifteen thousand every year,” Sarmah said.
