A team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police on Friday reached Tinsukia to investigate the mysterious hit-and-run case that claimed the life of journalist Parag Bhuyan on Wednesday night.
The team led by Senior Superintendent of Police Bibekananda Das comprises Deputy Superintendent of Police Pradip Kumar Das and Inspector Jitesh Barman.
A three-member team from the Forensic Science Laboratory, Guwahati, including senior scientist and officer-in-charge of physics division Partha Pratim Dev Sarma, junior scientist and officer of the serology division Arup Manta and laboratory technician of photography division Haren Das, is also accompanying the CID team.
“We will examine every aspect of the incident. To carry out the investigation efficiently, Bibekananda Das has been appointed as the head of the team as he has the experience of working with the National Investigation Agency. We will not compromise with anything to find out the truth,” The Assam Tribune quoted CID IGP Surendra Kumar as saying.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday had ordered a CID probe into the death of journalist Bhuyan.
Bhuyan was hit by a vehicle on Wednesday night near his residence in Tinsukia’s Kakopathar. He succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.
Two persons have been arrested in connection with the case and the vehicle has been seized, Assam police said.
