Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, speaking at the Special Open Session of the 16th Biennial State Children Congress of Sodou Asom Moina Parijat, underlined the importance of imparting moral and spiritual education to children. The event was held at Kaliabor in Nagaon district.

“Children are the future of the nation. It is the duty of the society, especially the parents and the teachers to shape them as good citizens. We’ll have to show them the path of enlightenment and develop a congenial environment for their holistic growth. State Government is fully committed and extend all cooperation in this regard”, Sonowal said.

He also drew the attention of the children towards maintaining cleanliness and personal hygiene for a healthy life. He urged the children to stand against all anti-social and divisive forces and promote harmony and unity. The Chief Minister advised the children to develop a habit of planting more horticultural and medicinal plants to create a pollution free environment.

At the event, Chief Minister Sonowal handed a cheque of Rs 12 lakh as grant to Sodou Asom Moina Parijat. He informed that the State Government would bear the construction cost of the central office of this organization.

Minister of Water Resources Keshav Mahanta, who is the president of Sodou Asom Moina Parijat, was also present at the event. Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University Dr Alok Kumar Buragohain spoke on the occasion as Special Guest.
