Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday met Union chemicals and fertilizers minister DV Sadananda Gowda to discuss the setting up of a new ammonia-urea plant at the premises of the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) in Namrup.
The Union government has offered to increase its share in the project from 11 per cent to 26 per cent.

The project is proposed to be implemented jointly by the National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), Oil India Limited (OIL), Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (RCF), Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) and Assam government.
The ammonia-urea plant will have a capacity of 12.70 LMT.

The plant will be set up at an estimated cost of about Rs 7600 crores.
