The CBI has seized an additional Rs 2.04 crore in the Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) bribery case.

The seizure was made from a private hotel in South Delhi.

Executives of ABCI Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, accused in the infamous bribery case that also allegedly involves senior officials of NF Railways, had hid the money in the hotel.

“After a thorough search, Rs 2.04 crore (approx) cash along with other items were seized from the said place for further investigation,” CBI Spokesperson RC Joshi said.

“This includes an alleged bribe of Rs. one crore, which exchanged hands and is stated to be one of the biggest bribe money trapped. Besides this, jewellery and property documents were recovered from the locations of the accused,” Joshi said.

“Rs 4.43 crore have been recovered so far,” Joshi further added.

Earlier on Sunday, CBI sleuths had arrested Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) MS Chauhan of NFR and other senior officials in an alleged bribery case of Rs 1 crore.

The CBI recovered the entire Rs 1 crore bribe money.

CBI said that it was the biggest entrapment case in recent times.

The accused, MS Chauhan was posted at Maligaon in Guwahati, which is the headquarters of Northeast Frontier Railways.

“It was alleged that some senior public functionaries of North East Frontier Railways were involved in corrupt practices with private contractors for the ongoing projects in the North East Frontier Railways,” added Joshi.

CBI is likely to take MS Chauhan to New Delhi for questioning.

Cases have been registered by the CBI under section of Indian Penal Code (IPC) relating to criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act pertaining to bribery.
