An alleged cattle smuggler has been killed by the troopers of the Border Security Force (BSF) in a gunfight along the India-Bangladesh border.

The shootout broke out along the India-Bangladesh border in Assam’s South Salmara district.

One BSF personnel also sustained serious injuries in the gun battle.

According to reports, the gunfight broke out when a gang of cattle smugglers allegedly tried to cross over to Bangladesh with cattle. 

The cattle smugglers allegedly opened fire on BSF personnel when being challenged.

Meanwhile, the BSF informed that the other smugglers managed to escape from the spot.

The deceased smuggler has been identified as 23-year-old Md Mondal. 

Mondal was a resident of Mondal Para in Mankachar police station area. 

Meanwhile, an investigation into the incident has been launched.
