At a time when people from across the nation have been raising their voices against atrocities, rape and molestation of women including the recent incidents of rape and murder of minors, hundreds of people took out a candle march in Tezpur on Monday evening against the alleged killing of a boy by his girlfriend.

The candle march was taken out from Chandmari area till L B Road demanding exemplary punishment to one Kabyasri Mahanta, aged around 30 years, who had burnt her ex-boyfriend alive a couple of days back at her L B Road residence with the help of her mother.

The victim Amar Nath, aged around 26 years, was rushed to Kanakalata Civil Hospital with severe burn injuries.

Later he was shifted to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in a critical condition and is still struggling with his life till now.

However, though one Sunit Roy allegedly involved in burning alive the youth has been arrested, people from all walks of life on Monday evening came out and spontaneously took part in the candle march and demanded exemplary punishment for the accused girl.

The accused girl along with a boy allegedly set the youth identified as Amar Nath Sharma on fire by pouring kerosene on his body when he stormed to the girl’s residence at LB Road at Tezpur in Sonitpur district.

The boy, who hails from Chandmari Lalmati area , suffered 50 per cent burn injuries.
