Cancer centre at Assam’s Kokrajhar a giant step forward: Hagrama

Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary while taking part in the ground breaking ceremony of 19 new cancer centres as part of the inclusive cancer care programme at Besorgaon near Deborgaon in Kokrajhar district on Monday said he was optimistic of the start of Kokrajhar Medical College soon.

Mohilary took part in the prayers and lighting of lamp in the foundation of cancer centre in Kokrajhar and addressed the gathering.

He said before media persons that the foundation of new cancer centres across Assam was utmost important as the killer disease is increasing in fast manner.

He said the people of the State had been facing severe hardships due to lack of cancer hospitals in the region and poor people cannot afford to get proper treatment in other metro cities.

Mohilary said the establishment of new cancer centres with Tata Trusts will cater the needs of the people of Northeast.

He said the new cancer centre was laid at Besorgaon near Deborgaon in Kokrajhar as the Kokrajhar Medical College would be set up at Besorgaon.

He said the facilities for consultation, treatment and counseling would be easy after the new cancer centre is set up adjacent to the medical college.

He dwelt on the necessity of establishment of medical colleges in every district of the State to overcome the shortage of doctors and para medical staff.

He also said that the Kokrajhar Medical College which is the long pending demand of the people of BTC region is likely to be set up on August next.

Assam minister Pramila Rani Brahma said that the cancer hospital  has been going to be established at Besorgaon in Kokrajhar and it will be great help for cancer patients to take treatment in the BTAD region.

She said that many people have been suffering from cancer and many patients are going to Mumbai and other parts of country to treatment.

Brahma said that cancer patients would be able to take treatment at Kokrajhar with less expenses.

The ceremonial function was also attended by Thaneswar Basumatary, MLA Chapaguri, BTC EMs-Doneswar Goyary, Rajib Brahma, Ansumwi Khunggur Boro, Lwmsrao Daimary, Ganesh Kachary, MLA Thaneswar Basumatary, MCLAs, BTC Principal Secretary BC Phukan, Kokrajhar DC Niranjan Baruah, IGP, BTC Anurag Agarwal, SP Rajen Singh and higher officials of Medical department.
