budget session in assam

The budget session of Assam assembly started on a chaotic note on Tuesday as the legislators from Congress protested against the alleged saffronisation of the assembly. Alleging that the government is being run by RSS, the Congress MLAs boycotted the traditional photoshoot and tea session which takes place on the opening day.

Leader of the Opposition, Debabrata Saikai speaking to the media said, “We have protested against the speech of the Governor. In his speech, he said that this government is transparent and clean when the reality is far from it. They have failed to fulfill their promises. Illegal syndicate of sand, stone and timber is going on unabated. Crime against women and children is increasing. Recently, police fired upon innocent protesters in Dima Hasao. However, these issues didn’t come up in the speech of the Governor.”

Former Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, meanwhile, in his trademark style attacked the government.  “Government is being run by the RSS and not Sarbananda Sonowal. It is a matter of great concern that they are trying to control the legislative assembly. Tomorrow they might take control over the Parliament and the Election Commission after that.”

Launching a scathing attack against State Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Gogoi said, “The government is being run by Pipersenia who is a puppet of RSS. In fact, it was Himanta Biswa Sarma who said that Pipersenia is an RSS person when he had complained about me to Rahul Gandhi. I didn’t pay attention at that time but now I understand what he said was true.”

Gogoi also claimed that the government is responsible for large scale omission of the names of religious and linguistic minorities from the first draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
