Police arrest Buddhist monk for ‘sexually abusing’ 15 Assam boys

A Buddhist monk, on Wednesday has been taken into police custody at Bodh Gaya, the international pilgrim town, on charges of his involvement in sexually abusing 15 children from Assam, who were studying at a school-cum-meditation centre run by him, said said.

A report published by NDTV on Thursday, quoted Superintendent of Police (City), Gaya, Anil Kumar as saying that the monk was being interrogated by Rajkumar Shah, Town Deputy Superintendent of Police.

It has been reported that the monk ran the institution in Bodh Gaya where the 15 victim children – all from Assam’s Karbi Anglong district – have been pursuing studies.

The report also stated that the police had received information that the boys were being sexually exploited by the monk since long.

The report also stated: “The children are being questioned by the SHO of Mahila Thana. They will be produced before a magistrate tomorrow and their statements recorded under the relevant CrPC section. They will also be taken for medical tests based on the results of which a case may be lodged against the monk.”
