The vessel, which was being transported to hand over to the Inland Water Transport Development Society after repairs at a facility at Pandu, developed a technical snag and partially sank at Lachitghat.
The incident occurred on Saturday, fortunately, without any passengers on board.
Had there been passengers, the consequences could have been catastrophic. The timely intervention of a rescue team prevented the complete sinking of the vessel, with only half of it submerged.
