The body of an aged woman was recovered at Belsiri Tea estate under a roadside culvert suspected to be raped and murdered under Missamari Police station of Dhekiajuli circle in Sonitpur district, police said.
According to the police, the body was found lying inside a culvert near Belsiri Tea Estate factory.
The local people have identified the body to be that of one Jayamati Bhumij, aged around 55 years and wife of late Sonu Bhumij of Belsiri tea estate mandir line.
Locals have also alleged that miscreants have raped and murdered the elderly lady.
The incident took place while she was coming from a marriage nearby.
After the incident, senior police officials rushed to the spot and a sniffer dog was used to trace any clue of those involved in the heinous crime.
Inquest was done over the dead body by circle officer of Dekiajuli and was sent for post mortem to Tezpur Medical College Hospital vide Belsiri police out post number 188.
In this regard a case has also been registered and investigation is on.
However, no arrest has been made so far.
