While addressing a press conference at the Guwahati Press Club on Monday, Sarania, who won the Lok Sabha elections from Kokrajhar constituency for two times, on non-Bodo votes, said, “As a result of the BTC Accord, many people living in BTAD area have lost their rights.”

On Tuesday, a tripartite Memorandum of Settlement (Mos) was signed in Delhi with all the factions of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), led by Ranjan Daimary, B Saoraigwra, Gobinda Basumatary, Dhiren Boro, All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO).

From the state and central governments, the MoS was signed by Assam chief secretary  Kumar Sanjay Krishna and Satyendra Garg, joint secretary, (Northeast) ministry of home affairs in presence of union home minister Amit Shah.

The Bodo Peace Accord signing ceremony was also witnessed by Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief executive member (CEM) Hagrama Mohilary.

Parliamentarian Sarania opposed revision of the BTC electoral rolls and demanded that the electoral rolls of 2019 Lok Sabha polls be kept intake.

He said, “We have no objection if Bodo language is recognized as the official language of BTAD but Assamese, the official language of Assam, should not be downgraded.”

Coming down heavily on BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, Sarania said, “Hagrama is a big zero.”

“No issue with signing of the Accord, but those who were involved in crimes should be left to be judged by the law,” the former United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leader said.

Referring to the reports of the expansion of the area under BTC, Sarania said, “Himanta Biswa Sarma had said the area would not expand but Hagrama says the existing area would be expanded.”

Sarania, however, said, “With the signing of the accord, the Bodo insurgency issue has come to an end forever. This is really good.”
