North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener and Assam health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that the BJP will restore peace in the trouble-torn Bodo belt if it is voted to power in the upcoming Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) polls.

Sarma was in Attarekhat under Bhergaon BTC constituency in Udalguri district to participate in a bike rally organized by BJP party workers and supporters.

Sarma sitting in a gypsy, waved to the public as his vehicle passed through the area.

Addressing  a meeting in  Bhuyankhat under Khoirabari BTC constituency Sarma said, “The people  should vote for the BJP as our party will herald a new dawn in the trouble-torn Bodo belt by restoring peace in the area.”

The saffron party has put in every effort to garner support for its candidates and it is likely to have ramifications beyond the BTC polls.

The BTC polls will be held in two phases on December 7 and 10.

While Udalguri and Baksa districts will go to polls in the first phase on December 7, the second phase of polling will take place in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts on December 10.

The counting of votes will take place on December 12.
