Senior AGP leader and former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has said that the BJP government has no moral right to be in power after AGP pulled out from the alliance and dared the saffron party to step down and go for fresh mandate.

“Although the BJP leadership claim the present government to be more a BJP government yet it is an alliance government. The BJP had a pre-poll alliance with the AGP before the 2016 polls. Now that the AGP has decided to come out of the alliance, the BJP has no moral right to be in power,” said Mahanta while daring the BJP to step down and seek fresh mandate.

The former Chief Minister also held the BJP responsible for AGP’s exit from the alliance and said that the BJP should show their courage and step down to seek fresh mandate from the people of Assam.

Mahanta also termed the NDA government’s hurry over Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 as a conspiracy and dared the BJP led government at the Centre to spell out as to how many persecuted Hindus, Sikhs, Christian and Buddhists from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan are taking shelter in India.

“Do the government know how many Hindus, Sikhs, Christian and Buddhists from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan have come to India? The government must give the list of such people before pressing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 so hard,” Mahanta said.

Terming the assurance to granting ST status to six communities in Assam as a farce, Mahanta asked why the Central government had not done anything in the last four years?

“Why are they taking up the matter just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls?” Mahanta asked.

The former Chief Minister hailed the AGP top brass’ decision to come out of the alliance and said that the party came out of the alliance for the sake of the people of Assam.
