BJP MPs from Northeast meet PM Narendra Modi over Assam-Mizoram border row

BJP MPs from Northeast met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday over the Assam-Mizoram border issue. 

In the meeting with the Prime Minister, the BJP MPs accused the Congress of politicising the border dispute between Assam and Mizoram.

The delegation of the BJP MPs was led by union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Sarbananda Sonowal. 

The delegation, comprising BJP MPs from Assam, Manipur, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh, met PM Modi at the Parliament House in New Delhi on Monday. 

The MPs submitted a memorandum to PM Modi stating that parties like Congress politicking the Assam-Mizoram border issue and making proactive statements.

They expressed disapproval of attempts by a section of polity led by Congress and using these incidents to indulge in one-upmanship. 

“Series of confidence-building measures have taken place over last few days. Yet actions of Congress remain as devious and mischievous,” the BJP MPs said in the memorandum. 

The people won’t allow the Congress or its proxies to destroy these good works. With this objective, today met PM Narendra Modi ji along with MPs from the Northeast and presented a memorandum against Congress’ attempt to foster disharmony and unrest in the region,” said union minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Union minister Kiren Rijiju said that the tensions between Assam and Mizoram are fuelled by forces from outside the country. 

Rijiju said that lots of elements from outside our country fuelling violence by making inciting statements. 

The Arunachal Pradesh MP further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi told BJP MPs that his love and affection for the Northeast is natural, should not be looked at it from the prism of politics.
