The statewide protests against Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) seem to have stressed the BJP legislators in Assam.
Probably under stress, BJP legislator Dr Numal Momin who represents Bokajan constituency on Tuesday evening tweeted his condolence about the sudden demise of his colleague Rajan Borthakur.
Borthakur is, however, struggling for his life at the TIMES hospital in Tezpur in Assam’s Sonitpour district.
“His condition is learnt to be critical. He was brought to our hospital around 4.30 pm today. But the family members later wanted to shift him to the Hyatt hospital in Guwahati,” said a TIMES hospital official.
“However, the family members brought him back from midway and admitted into our hospital,” the official added.
“Borthakur is suffering from heart-related ailments,” the officer said.
“We are shocked to hear the sudden demise of Rangapara BJP MLA Rajen Barthakur. A very humble politician of Assam, we lost early. May his departed soul rest in eternal peace,” tweeted Dr Momin.
Borthakur who won the recent by-polls from Rangapara constituency was suffering from heart-related ailments for quite some time now.
Borthakur, known as a close associate of Assam finance minister Sarma, represented Tezpur Assembly constituency from 2011 to 2016 as Congress MLA.
He along with eight other dissident Congress MLAs had joined the BJP before 2016 Assembly polls.
