The BJP is a “party of migrant leaders” and most of their leaders are migrants from other parties including chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Congress has said.

“After forming a party in Assam by poaching members from other political parties, the BJP now says that they want cadres of the Congress instead of leaders.

“This means that they are now aware of the fact that their support base at grassroots is fast fading away. They are now trying to poach workers of other parties. Everyone is aware that their entire party is formed with ‘migrant’ leaders,” Bobbeeta Sharma, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) media cell head said in a statement on Monday.

“Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass has claimed that they are not willing to induct any leader who is from another party into the BJP, but most of their leaders are migrants from other parties including Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal,” Sarma added.

“Many ministers in his Cabinet are also from other parties. The BJP, over the years, has been poaching members of other parties by various kinds of pressure, vindictiveness and blackmailing tactics.

“People are aware that many presently powerful BJP ministers had joined the party due such tactics as BJP is adept at ‘keeping the sword of Damocles hanging over their heads’ lest they do not join the party,” he said.

Sharma alleged that the BJP’s primary agenda is to create division in the society.

“Congress grassroots workers are aware of the agenda of the BJP in dividing the people of Assam in order to hide their disastrous rule of five years filled with rampant corruption like SI scam, the P&RD scam, rising unemployment, and uncontrolled price rise that has made life increasingly difficult for the common man,” said the Congress leader.

She said that the Assam BJP president should first respond to these failures rather than giving speeches to poach supporters from other parties.
